A Miracle Delivered: A Successful IVF Birth

At Gladspring Fertility Centre, we transform dreams into reality, as exemplified by the inspiring journey of Chika and Emeka, a couple from Abuja who welcomed their son, Chinedu, on August 20, 2025, following a successful IVF treatment and expertly managed delivery. Their story showcases our seamless integration of advanced fertility care and safe delivery services, offering hope to couples facing infertility—a challenge prevalent in West Africa due to conditions like tubal blockages or male factor infertility.

The IVF Journey:

A Path to ConceptionChika, 36, and Emeka, 40, struggled with infertility for four years, with Chika diagnosed with bilateral tubal blockages and Emeka facing low sperm motility. In January 2025, they began their IVF journey at Gladspring. After an initial consultation, our fertility specialists conducted a comprehensive evaluation, including ultrasounds, semen analysis, and a hysteroscopy to assess Chika’s uterus (see Endoscopy/Hysteroscopy Services). The couple opted for IVF with Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI) to address Emeka’s sperm issues (see ICSI Services).Over 6 weeks, Chika underwent ovarian stimulation with daily injections, monitored closely with ultrasounds and blood tests. On March 10, 2025, we retrieved 12 eggs via a minor procedure under sedation, and Emeka provided a sperm sample for ICSI. Five healthy embryos were created, with one selected for transfer after Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT) confirmed its genetic health (see PGT Services). The embryo transfer on March 15, 2025, was a quick, comfortable process, followed by a 2-week wait. On March 29, 2025, a blood test confirmed Chika’s pregnancy, met with tears of joy and relief, supported by our counseling team.

The Delivery:

A Safe and Celebrated BirthOn August 20, 2025, Chika arrived at Gladspring’s birthing suite at 8:00 AM in early labor, accompanied by Emeka and supported by our midwife team. Her labor progressed well, with continuous fetal monitoring ensuring Chinedu’s safety. By noon, as contractions intensified, Chika opted for an epidural, expertly administered by our anesthesiologists, providing effective pain relief. After 7 hours of labor, at 3:15 PM, Chika delivered Chinedu vaginally, weighing a healthy 3.4 kg (7.5 lbs), with the obstetrician assisting to manage a minor second-degree tear, which was repaired with precision. The delivery room filled with emotion as Chinedu cried for the first time, and Chika held him skin-to-skin, a moment Emeka captured with tears of gratitude. Our neonatal team assessed Chinedu, confirming his perfect health, and Chika was moved to a private recovery room, where the family bonded over the next 24 hours.
